Great darts line - up here in April,
Lewis,Wade, Chizzy, Snakebite,Painter,Mardle and Bristow v Wade.
Russell Bray on the mic!
Seems cheap at £35 oche seating Inc. meet them all after.
Looks like a decent night out to me, what's it like at the tavern?

Saturday nights used to be blokes upstairs for female strippers, downstairs women and bloke strippers - then about 10 o clock it merged into one nightclub for all downstairs. Your entrance fee also included a ticket to the buffet which was located at the back of the dance floor. What a place!

n the late 70's I actually sung with the 3 tops, one of the was sick. This is a true story.

The chorus to "Baby I need your lovin" was being loudly sung by all and sundry when one of the three tops thrust the microphone in my general direction and I sang "Baby I need your lovin', got to have all your lovin'.

A little light somewhere in the heavens went out that night as I was apparently fucking useless.

Love the CT. Use to love a night out down there (seems moons ago now) saw a few stand up's down there (davidson, manning) smoking nights and use to go to the darts quite a lot.

Seen a few tear up's down there too, and outside in the car park.

Got some cracking stories of the tavern in the late 90s early 00s...

- mate of mine dancing/grinding 'Thursday night at ikon' style with a proper sort on the dance floor. Bloke comes over - "you don't want to be dancing with her pal", mate tells him impolitely to 'go away'. Next thing he sees a full pint fly narrowly past his head. Turns to kick off with who ever chucked it only to see a bloke flashing a taser at him from his inside blazer pocket.

- same mate continued to dance with same girl only for one of the notoriously violent bouncers to notice a notoriously violent local gangster about to taser an idiot for dancing with notoriously 'friendly' scantily clad girlfriend. The bouncer attempts to escort my pal out of the venue only to receive a decent right hander to the jaw, other bouncers notice instantly what happened and steam in. In the heat of the moment my pal (in an act of self preservation) managed to step to the side as two of them charge, unfortunately he was very close to the top of a smallish stair case and just happened to move at the exact right moment to send them both tumbling arse over tit down to the floor below.

He woke up sprawled out in the waiting room of Basildon hospital at 10am the next day, his last memory of the night before being four bouncers holding his arms and legs and taking him out of a side door of the club.

Not sure whether this meant he was lucky, unlucky or that Basildon hospital was as shite then as it is now. Luckily though, he did vaguely remember the first kick round to the head after being thrown out (literally) meaning he got a free lift home to Chadwell St Mary from the old bill wantnig further info and thus saving him a further slap from his old man for dragging him over to Basildon!

The good old days - can't beat a night out at the tavern!

Great place. Went last year by train with some South London pals (Palace, Wall) - they loved the walk from the station, confirmed all their anti-Essex bias, abandoned fridges, mattresses, tramps everywhere.

"Snot and shit everywhere, tight, and the stench of death. Enjoy."

Every pub you go to is like that. Maybe there's a common denominator.

Excellent. You don't get advice like that on TripAdvisor. Exactly how I hoped it would be.

It's a sad sight watching Brissy chuck an arrer, these days. Horrible, stuttery throw.

The Tavern remains a tremendous venue. Snot and shit everywhere, tight, and the stench of death. Enjoy.

It's The Crafty Cockney v Keith 'the feller' Deller, not Wade. Think I'll give it a go.
Any recommendations for somewhere to stay?
